To educate a child in this area of India costs only £12 a month. However, it is a long term commitment, as you will asked to continue this support for the ten years it takes to complete their schooling. 

You may prefer to make a one off donation of £1,440 for the full cost. The charity will earn a little interest on this donation during the ten years, which will help offset any rise in costs.

In some instances it is possible to write to the child and get letters back from them. Mail is not always delivered in remote areas so this may not be an option for all sponsored children
